How to search TiviMate and BigPlay: Live TV versus movies and shows

A team, a channel, a movie or a show: start with one distinctive word, then look in the right kind of result.

TiviMate: one search, several result types

Open Search from TiviMate’s menu on your streaming box. Type a word with the on-screen keyboard, or dictate it using a compatible remote and voice-enabled keyboard. Voice input depends on the device and permissions.

Our tested TiviMate search separates Movies, TV Shows, Channels and Programs. Read the result category before choosing a match. The first visible row is not necessarily the part of the search you need.

Looking for Live TV in TiviMate?

• Search a channel name to find that channel directly.
• Search a team, league or event, then inspect both Channels and Programs.
• Channels match words in channel names. PPV slots may include the teams, date and time even when the programme guide is empty.
• Programs match the guide’s programme information. This is where a mapped guide can reveal a broadcast on a channel whose name never mentions the team.

In our tests, channel results ran horizontally while programme results ran vertically. Scroll across the channel row and down through programme matches; highlighting a result can reveal information that is not visible in the first screenful. Long channel names scrolled in the tested TiviMate interface, helping expose event details.

Looking for a movie or series in TiviMate?

Search a distinctive title word, then choose Movies or TV Shows results from the connected playlist. For a series, confirm the season and episode before playing. A movie title in Programs is a scheduled TV broadcast, which is different from a VOD copy you can start on demand.

BigPlay: choose Live TV or Home first

Home search covers VOD movies and TV shows in the tested mobile app. It does not include Live TV. On Home, the search beside For You works within that viewing area. Its All option does not mean every live channel is included.

For channels, teams and live programmes, tap LIVE TV at the bottom. Find the Search icon below the small broadcast preview and just above the channel cards. This is the Live TV search.

BigPlay Live search: All, Channels and Programs

• All: inspect the combined Live TV results first.
• Channels: find matching channel names, including event-labelled PPV slots.
• Programs: find matching programme-guide entries, including broadcasts on ordinary sports channels.

Try Leafs for a team search. Check both channel-name hits and programme matches. For a movie or series instead, return to Home and use its search; choose the correct title, year, season and episode.

For sports, verify the event before pressing Play

Read the opponent, date, time and any NEXT or END label. Those labels come from the provider and are clues rather than universal app rules. BigPlay’s LIVE button can mean the channel is currently broadcasting a preview; it does not establish that the match has started.

Long channel names did not scroll in our tested BigPlay results, so the event date or time could be hidden. Use the visible guide information and confirm the event on the channel. Do not assume every result containing your team is today’s game.

A quick search routine for either app

1. Load the playlist you want to search.
2. Use one distinctive word; try a shorter team name or a different title word if needed.
3. Choose the relevant results: Live channels/programmes or VOD movies/shows.
4. Scroll beyond the first visible matches.
5. Confirm the event or title, language and playback before settling in.

Searches use the connected playlist, channel names, VOD catalogue and available guide information. They do not search inside every separate Netflix, Disney+ or other paid account. Missing guide information can reduce programme results even when the channel itself plays.
